The subject of the retreat will be the all-important and all-defining faculty of awareness, which is fundamental not only to yoga but also to our human existence.

What do we mean by awareness? For most people, awareness means mere knowledge. We often say, “I am aware of that,” meaning that we know something. In yoga it also means knowledge but it simultaneously means far more. Awareness in a general sense means to comprehend, to know, to feel what is happening around us. It also means to know what is happening within us. Most people comprehend very little of what is occurring around and within them. This is a low state of awareness.

The Bhagavad Gita is an exceptional philosophical and spiritual treatise that provides complete guidance for life. It is addressed to the ordinary person, to all of us, and deals with the problems we face in life. The program will be led by Swami Omgyanam Saraswati, who will enlighten us through the eternal teachings of the Gita, the yogic principles and methods to take control of our mind and emotions, leading to understanding and a more peaceful and contented life. The daily routine of the retreat is based on the integrated practice of the branches of yoga used in Satyananda’s system of yoga. In addition to lectures and group work, there will be asana and pranayama practice, relaxation, meditation, mantra and karma yoga.
